Energy Advisor

Russell King, M.E. is a licensed Mechanical Engineer in three states. He has over 30 years of experience practicing and teaching in the areas of residential HVAC design and energy code compliance and consulting. He is the author of “HVAC 1.0 – Introduction to Residential HVAC Systems”. Russ is the Senior Director of Technical Services at CalCERTS, Inc., a California Home Energy Rating System (HERS) Provider. He is the Vice Chair of the California Association of Building Energy Consultants (CABEC). He is Co-Owner of Coded Energy, Inc., the developers of Kwik Model 3D, a user interface for HVAC design and Energy Modeling software.

“I am most impressed with BamCore’s inherent energy efficiency benefits of having extraordinarily little thermal bridging through the walls along with their high-tech approach to incorporating mechanical system plans and instructions directly on the wall panels. I believe that their potential to reduce the pressure on the planet’s conifer forests is incredible and just a small part of their overall environmental benefits.”

In addition to being an instructor of several full day IOUs Codes and Standards trainings (Energy Code Ace www.energycodeace.com ) on the Residential and Nonresidential Title 24 Building Energy Efficiency Standards for building department staff, energy consultants, architects, contractors and design engineers, she is a Certified Energy Analyst (CEA) through CABEC, and a LEED AP specializing in nonresidential energy modeling for Title 24 Part 6 and LEED projects.

“As California continues to be a leader in energy and environmental conservation through their Building Code (Title 24 Part 5 and 11), the construction industry will need to find solutions, such as BamCore, that not only exceeds the minimum code requirements here in California, but also reduces and minimizes in the field coordination.  I also love the fact that they are a local Northern California company and are some of the nicest people to work with in the industry!”

Building Advisor

Daniel Bowen is a California B – General Building Contractor working in Sonoma County and the North San Francisco Bay Area since 2009.  He builds new homes, disaster rebuilds, additions, and remodel/renovations.  Dan has over 45 years of general, as well as structural concrete construction knowledge and experience.  Prior to opening his own construction company, he was a journey level carpenter/foreman for Colombini Construction, in the North San Francisco Bay Area.  Dan also served as foreman/superintendent for Peck & Hiller Construction Company building structural concrete high-rise buildings in the greater San Francisco Bay Area, and around the United States. In addition, Dan has strong maintenance and operations knowledge and experience having spent time working in the public-school sector in Sonoma County.

“I have been building and repairing homes in Northern California Wildfire areas for the past 3 years.  The first few projects using conventional framing.  In 2018 I built my first BamCore home.  Not knowing much about the product, I was somewhat hesitant.  However, not long into the project I was an emphatic Believer and advocate!  I am presently working on my 5th BamCore home and have 2 more pending in 2021.  After many frustrating years of building with often sub-par conventional material, BamCore has proven itself a superior building product.  It has also proven to be far more cost effective than conventional framing with half the building time and half the labor power.  I have yet to find a negative component to using this product.  For me, there is no comparison. I feel fortunate knowing there is a future of building with BamCore.”

Past Chairman of the D.C. 16 Painters and Tapers Joint Apprenticeship Training Committee. Currently Assistant Director of the North Bay Transitional Introduction Program to Construction.

“My thoughts on Bamcore, this innovative system is so impressive and gives so many options to the builder. From the finishing with or without sheetrock to the stability of the structure. From the standpoint of the Finishing Trades, I feel this is a superior alternative to the way drywall has been performed for decades. This is the future here, now!”

William McDonald
Retired Founder

William has been in the building industry for over forty years, as a framer, contractor, truss manufacturer, component manufacturer and most importantly a visionary and an inventor. Using his experience and his mechanical ingenuity, he focused on re-inventing our legacy 130-year-old stud-based framing system. Understanding the structural performance needs and the thermal and acoustic needs of low-rise framing, William foresaw that a hollow-wall framing system that could be built on any site without dependence on cranes or the constraints of modular systems would be vastly superior. To eliminate studs, headers, and post, he knew he had to go beyond available versions of plywood, which led him to invent and patent both the methods and machines to make super-strong bamboo-wood hybrid panels that could safely bear low-rise building loads up to five stories. The incorporation of bamboo added a uniquely powerful environmental benefit to his hollow-wall design.

From 2006 to 2016, I led BamCore from concept to business formation to initial prototype production. From 2006 to 2008, I worked intensely to develop the bamboo-wood hybrid panels and the hollow-wall system that resulted in two patents. In 2008, I formed BamCore LLC where in the following years I continued development and executed another five patents. Late in 2017, I ceased full-time management of BamCore and today I advise BamCore on a range of topics including the means and methods to speed installation of BamCore’s Prime Wall system. Starting and developing BamCore has been one of my most fulfilling endeavors. In the 15 years since I began development, no one has come close to matching the solutions that BamCore brings to improving stud wall construction while being green.
