BamCore Selected for Federal Grant to Advance Low-Carbon Building Materials

Updated: Jul 29

Breaking News from the EPA

In a significant move by the Biden-Harris administration, nearly $160 million in grants has been allocated to rejuvenate American manufacturing and support the production of low-carbon building materials, under President Biden’s landmark Inflation Reduction Act. This initiative not only underscores a national commitment to environmental stewardship but also positions the U.S. as a leader in the production of clean construction materials.

Announced by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), these grants target a wide array of sectors required for building and maintaining America's infrastructure—from concrete and steel to wood and glass. Global Bamboo Technologies, the parent company of BamCore, is among the 38 entities selected to potentially receive funding to develop Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs). These EPDs will detail the carbon emissions associated with the lifecycle of construction materials, fostering a market for sustainable building materials that supports cleaner federal building projects and infrastructure.

At BamCore, we are thrilled about our selection and the potential impacts of receiving this grant. As a company dedicated to revolutionizing the building materials industry by using rapidly renewable, deforestation-free fibers, we recognize the significance of the Federal Buy Clean Initiative. This initiative not only leverages the government’s purchasing power but also catalyzes demand for environmentally friendly materials, aligning perfectly with our mission to reduce the carbon footprint of the construction industry.

Through these grants, businesses, universities, and nonprofit organizations across all 50 states will gain support in measuring and communicating the environmental impacts of their products. This is a crucial step in educating and informing consumers and institutional buyers, allowing for more informed decisions that support sustainable practices.

The broader implications of these investments are profound. They extend beyond environmental benefits to include economic and social advantages—creating jobs, reducing energy costs, and building a resilient infrastructure that can stand the test of time and climate change.

As BamCore eagerly awaits the final grant awards, we remain committed to pioneering solutions that meet the highest sustainability and efficiency standards. We are enthusiastic about the opportunities that the Inflation Reduction Act will bring for our company and the entire industry as we work together to build a cleaner, greener world.
